Getting to know Almería

Hello everyone!

Last week our students were busy getting to know Almería. They enjoyed a nice walk touring the city with our site-coordinator, Patricia. She showed us some important places to know in Almería. Our students enjoyed the beautiful views of the cathedral and even requested a tour inside the church which will be added to our itinerary, of course!

Our first stop was the mural at Plaza Julio Alfredo Egea, it features a mural dedicated to a local poet Julio Alredo Egea after whom the plaza is also named for.

We stopped for a photosession where a relic of Saint Valentine is burried (hence the hearts.)

Admiring the monutment the Martyrs of Liberty which was rebuilt after being destroyed as to not offend Franco on a visit to Almería in 1943. It commenmorates soliders who were executed upon returning from fighting the absolutist monarchy of King Ferdinand VII in 1824.

Finally, here is a group photo of a sneak preview visit to the Alcazaba. We visited the Alcazaba on Friday, more photos to come!

I leave you with the sun symbol that reprents Almeria! It is known as "Sol de Portocarrero".  Our students are definitely making the most of being in the sun with their visits to the beach!
